I'm a farmer and I can tell you skinless almonds at least date back to missionaries days when the spanish came to california. My grandma has been blanching almonds since the early 1940s. Some recipes require skinless. Like my millerfarms brand where about all my recipes we sell require the almonds to be blanched. I guess my main point is this is not a new age hippie movement its been done for ages. No there not as common. They taste great and you should try miller farms fried salted almonds or if you like black truffle they have that flavor. Availble in multiple stores across the states. Modesto ca is where there based out of in a store called obriens.or the internet cheftools.com through amazon. Try them out they are like a really unique snack. And tastes great

Well I do not normally comment on blogs but I happened upon yours whilst I was doing a bit of job research in Google today and so i decided I would drop a quick comment. As you can imagine I've gotten a tad distracted after sticking around to read a few of your posts. You have some good insights here, so I will add you to my Google Reader for the future. Many thanks!
